Nova Production is a bold new visual game art outsourcing studio founded by a close-knit team of eight Ukrainian artists—many of whom bring decades of AAA experience. Born in the wake of layoffs at Gunzilla Games, Nova turned an upsetting situation into a launchpad for their long-term dream of founding a Studio. In spite of several team members receiving personal job offers from other studios across the globe, they chose to double down: starting something of their own.
We spoke to Andriy Shymanskyy to learn more about their team and studio: which was only founded around two months ago!
Their mission statement:
To Deliver world-class, realistic assets that enhance gameplay and immerse players in compelling, believable game worlds.

The Origins of Nova Production
So, why “NOVA”? Well, it stands for:
- Next Gen
- Outsourcing
- Visual
- Arts
The idea of Nova was first conceived in 2016 during Andriy’s time at Artery Studios. The idea was to create an experienced Ukrainian art-team and open their own company. Unfortunately, the developing situation with war in Ukraine put pressure on this possibility. Start-up investment became harder to obtain, and the opportunity of opening a new business was therefore near-impossible. So, like many dreams, it had to be put on hold.

Instead, Andriy returned to work as an Artist on standout titles like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Gotham Knights, Clockwork Revolution, and most recently: Off the Grid. Along the way, he forged strong creative bonds with Lead and Principal artists across projects—many of whom would later join him in founding Nova.

For Andriy, the opportunity to start Nova Productions properly arose when layoffs hit Gunzilla. With a concentration of human resource and high-level talent available, including Lead Artists on projects like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Andriy gathered a game art outsourcing “A-Team” into Nova Productions to search for their first project. Alongside the eight core members, Nova promises access to a large network of freelancers and artists to join their ranks as per requests of their client.
